  • Raymond McGowan took over for John A. Ryan in the Social Action Department. He was then succeeded by George Higgins. 
  • Dorothy Day founded the Catholic Worker movement with Peter Maurin. John Cort was one of a group of people who founded the Association of Catholic Trade Unionists.
